Product Attributes

The attributes allows the customers to compare the products in “Product Comparison”. When viewing products in the store front, customers have the option to add products to “Add to Compare” to analyze the similarities and differences between products. Attributes can be used to describe the specifications of the product that have potential for comparison. The attributes can be added using Catalog > Attributes area.

Attribute Groups

An attributes group contains attributes that can be grouped. Attributes such as ‘Clockspeed’ and ‘Fan Speed’ can be organized under the attribute group of ‘Motherboard’. From the grid view as shown below, update, view, delete action on each row can be performed. On the grid level, bulk delete action can be performed to delete the multiple rows.

To create an attribute group, navigate to Catalog > Attributes Group and click “Create”. Name is required for the group while “Sort Order” is optional. Under the attribute group added, attributes can be added later.

Attributes

To list the attributes in the system,  navigate to Catalog > AttributesFrom the grid view as shown below update, delete, view action on each row operation can be performed. On the grid level, bulk delete action can be performed to delete the multiple rows.

To create an attribute, navigate to Catalog > Attributes and click “Create”. The form requires Name while “Sort Order” and “Attribute Group” are optional.

The attributes are useful to compare the products in the front end. For example,

  • For product Apple Cinema 20″, the attribute Fan Speed is set as 100 RPM
  • For product Apple Cinema 21″, the attribute Fan Speed is set as 70 RPM

Now the above mentioned products are added to the compare list in the store front. On comparison screen we can see there usage as highlighted below.

The customers can now make a more intelligent decision about the purchase by comparing the products. Hence it is very important to understand how to use attribute groups and attributes with products to bring around higher customer satisfaction.
